Archive Raindrop Class 2022-23
Raindrop Class is the home of our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils; they are next door to Bubble Class in The Sapling Building. The classroom is bright and spacious with a home corner linked to their area of learning. There are lots of practical resources for maths and a trolley of laptops.
Topic Overview: The topic this term is ‘Minibeasts’.
We will be learning about what a habitat is and explore the different habitats that minibeasts live in. We will ask how they are adapted for that environment and how they live. We will take time to understand the important role that minibeasts play in our ecosystems and how they differ over different ecosystems across the world. Children will also explore their importance in food chains.
Launch: We are taking a trip to the Living Rainforest on 17th January. We will be looking at how different insects and animals have adapted to different habitats. We hope to set up a wormery and an ant farm for the children to see nature up close.
|
End Product: The children will go on a minibeast hunt walk and make records of the insects they have discovered in different habitats/ecosystems. Children will be able to create bug hotels. |
Maths: This term we will be covering the following White Rose planning: In year 1, we will spend this term learning about shape, place value to 10 and 50 and moving onto measurement in length and mass after half term. In year 2, we will spend time learning about shape, multiplication and division and moving onto measurement in lengths and mass after half term. |
Literacy: During literacy we will be exploring the genre of comics in the form of Traction Man and storytelling from Shirley Hughes. We will be creating information texts about minibeasts and exploring minibeast poetry after half term. |
This week in Raindrop
We had a fantastic trip to the Living Rainforest.
Before Christmas Raindrop had a lot of fun making different amounts of money up to 10p and 20p to buy lots of exciting items. All children were able to be shop keepers and customers. Some were able to give change from 10p and 20p. We all got some time to play with our purchases.
What a lot of fun with money!
