Vision, Values and Ethos
“You will shine among them like stars in the sky ” Philippians 2:15
You are the light of the world…let your light shine…Matthew 5:14
At Stoke Row School we aim for our children to have the brightest futures, each one nurtured individually to be a guiding light with a unique sparkle. We teach one another to live with kindness and respect. We help our children to understand that with courage and perseverance they can excel.
Our vision draws inspiration from Philippians 2:15-16 (NIV) “You will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life” and Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV) “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Our vision is based on the idea of raising children to be a light in a dark world. We do this by developing an understanding of the Bible and a practical expression of our school’s values. In the same way our village is one of the highest places in the Chilterns, we want to be a bright light on a hill, unhidden and showing the way.
The vision has been developed over a number of years and has been a collaborative process led by the Christian Ethos Governors Committee but involving discussions with pupils, staff, parents and members of the local community. The following visual has been created to help the youngest members of our school to understand and access our vision.

School Core Values
At Stoke Row, we have five core values which were chosen by the pupils, staff, parents and governors. Everything we do at school is focused upon holding our values and living them out in our daily lives. Our teaching is underpinned by Jesus’ teaching and the Bible which we look to as our example.
We value Perseverance
We keep trying to learn even if we find it really difficult.
Endurance brings God’s approval, and his approval creates hope.
Romans 5:4
We value Respect
We listen to the chosen speaker. We are polite. We look after our school.
Love one another warmly as Christians and be eager to show respect for one another.
Romans. 12:10
We value Kindness
We use gentle hands and feet, and caring words.
As the scripture says, “He gives generously to the needy; his kindness lasts forever.”
2 Corinthians 9:9
We value Courage
We are brave and prepared to try new things and stand up for what we believe in.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go
Joshua 1:9
We value Excellence
By following all of our values, we show excellence in our behaviour and learning.
In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely and honorable.
