Links with Our Church and Village

  • Links with Our Church and Village
We are proud of our links to both churches in the village. Our primary link is with St. John the Evangelist. The sanctuary was internally modified some years ago in order to allow the school to use it well as our hall, and for worship each Sunday.

The church is part of the Langtree Team, led by Reverend Kevin Davies. We also work with Stoke Row Chapel and its minister, Reverend Mark Taylor. Both ministers are regular visitors to our school, and often participate in or lead special services during the year.

Apart from using St. John’s for P.E. lessons, music and choir, and class or school plays, we hold three assemblies a week there, and we have regular contributions to assemblies from both village churches.

Our school celebrates key events in the Christian calendar, including Christmas, Easter and Pentecost. Our pupils have opportunities to lead times of worship and prayers, and are fully involved in special occasions like our Harvest and Christingle services.

As a church school, we are inspected through the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools.  Our latest report can be found on the link below.

Stoke Row Village

In addition to using St John’s church next door for assemblies, PE lessons and performances, we make full use of other village amenities.

Our youngest pupils explore the Cherry Orchard at weekly Forest School sessions run by Chelsea our experienced and dedicated forest school teacher.  Our weekly running club meets at the Recreation Ground which is also the setting for our cross country races and the important annual sports day (as well as various PTA events including the Stoke Row Colour Run and the fiercely contested parents’ quiz night).  We also use the Village Hall for staged performances including our annual talent contest ‘Stars at the Well’ (along with PTA events including the Christmas Fayre to which the whole community is invited).

Also within Stoke Row you can find Stoke Row Stores the perfect place for a coffee and something to eat before pick-up (or indeed with the children afterwards).  The village is also home to the Cherry Tree Pub the venue of many a PTA meeting.  There are also many clubs that the children can join most notably the hugely popular Beaver, Cubs and Scouts groups which meet at the recreation ground (Beavers and Cubs) and at the village hall (Scouts)on Wednesdays as well as the tennis club which has two all-weather courts and the cricket club.  For the wider family there is everything from playgroups at the recreation ground and at the Chapel, to yoga and pilates classes.

And finally we should mention the refurbished playground in the Cherry Orchard which is a very popular after school meeting place on sunny days.
