Governors
The role of the governing body is to run the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. The governing body does this by:
- Providing the strategic direction for the school
- Supporting, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the school (the “critical friend” role)
- Ensuring accountability
Parents and prospective parents are welcome to discuss any general concerns, to offer suggestions, and to discuss matters of personal interest with the Chair of Governors, or with one of the Parent Governors. However, all academic queries should first be discussed with the class teacher, and any issues relating to the day to day running of the school should first be discussed with the Executive Headteacher.
The school has a dedicated Christian Ethos committee which meets 3-6 times a year and which currently comprises 3 foundation governors plus the Executive Headteacher. Terms of reference are set out in the Governors Handbook and include:
– ensuring the school’s Christian character is lived out through the school’s vision and Christian values
– monitoring delivery of the RE curriculum, Christian worship and spirituality provision in line with SIAMS and statutory guidelines
Governor’s monitor these areas by observing the school in action through a mixture of regular governor days, and specific class and assembly observations. The outcome of these visits is fed back to both the Headteacher and the full governing body and inform of the School’s Development Plan.
