Harvest Festival
2004
During this year's service, both Mr McTegart and Angela Linton commented on how wonderful St Johns Church had been decorated by our creative FOSRS team. It gave us a wonderful array of colours and smells to appreciate. The red vine and ivy were artistically wrapped around bright 'school yellow' daisies and draped onto the altar. Chestnut leaves, taped onto the ends of the pews, provided a beautiful repetitive pattern along either side of the aisle. The children sang some cheery songs to mark harvest time, but the finale was a very clever prayer, read by Mr McTegart about Harvest. Each time he spoke the word HARVEST, or one that could be made from those letters, the children had to assemble themselves in line, holding up the relevant letter, to create the correct spelling! Entertaining and informative!
Beautifully decorated, the church looked stunning!
Cheerful thanks for harvest.
Mellow melody.
HARVEST!
It is kind to SHARE our food with others less fortunate.
Often food is wasted as TRASH.
It is lucky to HAVE plenty to eat.
Food is transported across the SEA.
With water and HEAT, our food will grow.
Thanks for HARESVT... sorry, HARVEST!
And here is a copy of The Harvest Prayer
HARVEST time is here again.
We HAVE brought THE flowers, fruit and vegetables
that we HAVE grown in THE summer HEAT.
We STARE in awe AT THE HARVEST of EARTH and SEA.
We RAVE over THE lovely flowers arranged in A VASE.
Thank you, Lord God, for HARVEST.
We throw good food away as TRASH for RATS to EAT
AT an alarming RATE.
We HAVE so much, while millions STARVE.
SAVE us from greed and selfishness.
Help us, Lord, to SHARE THE good things you HAVE given,
that everyone may HAVE enough to EAT, STAVE off THE
pangs of hunger and AVERT starvation.
Take away all HATE from our HEARTS
and fill THE EARTH with your love
from EAST to west
and back again.
HEAR our prayer, Lord of THE HARVEST.
Amen.
