RESIDENTIAL VISIT TO YENWORTHY July 2002
Twenty of the older children from school spent a great week at Yenworthy, which is situated on the Somerset/Devon border between Porlock and Lynton.
There were some wonderful activities; surfboarding at Woolacombe Bay; rock climbing, coasteering and rock pooling at Lynton; a canoeing pirate adventure day at Wistlandpound Lake; Lyn Valley walk plus lots of centre based activities like orienteering and the ropes assault course. We shared the week with seven children from John Watson Special School and made some good new friends. A CD of photos is available from school with the profits going towards Sharon and Julie’s cycle ride across Cuba in aid of The National Children’s Deaf Society.
SCIENCE WEEK June 2002
As part of our Science Week we visited the Look-Out Centre in Bracknell, where everyone visited and enjoyed the main hands-on exhibition. In addition Red and Green Classes took part in an activity called ‘Bugs and Beasties’, while Yellow Class had ‘Discovery Boxes’ to explore. It was a great day, both entertaining and educational, and we were blessed by glorious sunshine. Thank you to the School Association who covered the balance of the coach costs.
Back at school we had four challenges set during our Science Week that were tackled by our Science groups, Archimedes, Newton, Darwin and Einstein. Weather Proof Teddy Shelters, aerial runways, newspaper bridges and
Art Straw Towers were designed. On the final day, we had a Land Racer Challenge across the playground.
HENLEY VISIT
Green Class visited the River and Rowing Museum and Yellow Class had a minibus, train and boat trip to Henley and up to the weir.
