Riding with Henley RDA
July 2008
Every Wednesday throughout the year a group of pupils from Stoke Row have been riding
with the Henley Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). Their riding skills and knowledge have
progressed steadily and, at the beginning of July, they all succesfully achieved one of the
RDA Horse Care and Riding proficiency tests. The tests were conducted by an external examiner.
Andrew and Brandon obtained Stage 1. They had to walk and trot on a lead rein, as well as naming parts of
the horse and tack.
Georgia and James obtained Stage 3. They had to walk and trot on both reins, unaided.
They had to ride a 20m circle, as well as ride into a box (marked out on the ground with poles), turn around,
and then stand and wait until they were called out. They were expected to name all parts of the
horse (including some bones) and tack (saddle and bridle).
The horses were Homer, Kerry, Mousie and Bert.
Congratulations to everyone!
